I admit that I'm a little petrified about posting here since I'm so unknowledgeable when it comes to technology, but I could really use some help here. I recently got a brand new laptop, a Dell Studio, replacing my last HP laptop. I was fairly happy with this one...until I discovered how much the Windows Search sucks. On my last computer, I was able to easily search for and find a file that I needed. Then I could easily click on and rename the file right there in the Files Found list.

Not so with this new one. My Windows Search is a lot more shiny and polished looking than the one I used to have...and it sucks. I can no longer rename files when I locate them in the search! With the kind of work I do, it's nigh impossible to find the particular file I'm looking for manually, which is why I liked the last Windows Search on my old computer. I could locate my file and easily rename them. With this new one, I can't do jack. It's devastating. Is there an option I have to check to allow me to rename files that I find in my searches? Or do I need to get an older version of Windows Search to be able to do this? How can I even tell which version I have?

I get the sneaking suspicion that I'm going to be chewed out for my naivety here. I know I'm not smart when it comes to this kind of thing, but I really need some help in getting this sorted out so I don't lose my mind! Thanks so much for listening to me.

I've just tried this and I can rename just fine. What OS/WDS versions are you running? How exactly are you searching for the file? The more accurately you describe this, the better chance we have of reproing and fixing this.
