Has anybody been successful deploying a C# based .net standard Azure Function to a deployed instance of a Azure Function Runtime (preview) directly from Visual Studio?  I have the Azure Function Runtime deployed on a Windows Server 2016 server.   After downloading the publish profile, when importing it into Visual Studio 2017, I receive an immediate Publish Failed.

Not that this resolves the specific issue you're encountering, but, if you're planning to use Azure Functions Runtime (preview) in production or for longer-term, please be aware that it may be getting deprecated soon and there are no planned releases at this time. Instead, please explore using Functions v2 runtime with Kubernetes cluster as explained here.
