It may be possible that the domain is tied to a different directory or to any other service, for example (Website). You need to remove the domain and add it back to Azure AD. Do you see the DNS records if you use a third-party DNS resolver (e.g. this one)? If this is not the case, then I would suggest using the PowerShell command to see if domain is verified or not.
