I'm currently moving an old Sharepoint Services 3.0 instance to a new server which is currently holding Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (Eventually further migrating to 2013). The old Sharepoint Services 3.0 is built on a Windows Server 2003 environment. As such, an in place upgrade is not possible as 2003 is not supported by Sharepoint 2010. I have Sharepoint 2010 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment.

Where I'm lost is, I I'm not understanding how to move from one setup to another while on another server. I have created a backup from 3.0 and tried to restore to 2010 but I was told that it was the wrong version type. I tried to use the SQL export/import tool to import the databases but it appears to have not worked and I can't see my sites within Sharepoint 2010.
