We have a "Custom List" list on which an Edit InfoPath form was created.  The functionality of everything that was done has worked without issue until I recently added additional lookup and text fields, which lead me to believe this was an InfoPath issue.

After days of dealing with this, however, it turns out this issue has nothing to do with InfoPath or the backend workflow as, with both turned off, the Sharepoint form generates this error itself.  This also has nothing to do with two people trying to edit the same record.

Another list's workflow generates a record in the list in question, setting the Created By field to the applicable user to take advantage of "Create items and edit items that were created by the user".

Meanwhile, check if there custom actions such as Event Receivers are running on this list.
