I have looked at dozens of code samples that let you can play an avi file
inside a picturebox. I am sure I have a handle on it...

What no one has said is what format restrictions there are for the
avi file... Size, frames, and the like. Can anyone point me in the right
direction for this. I am writing in VB12 but know VB6 a little better.

Any help would be great

It looks like they are using API calls to do it with In vb6 or below.
A quick check on my system (Vista X64)shows that the dll name is still on the system. you may be able to update the older version to a .net version using the api calls.
