Could anybody advise me how to create SQL server database? I tried it in SQL Sever Management Studio Express but it failed to create it.

I also tried it Visual Studio 2008 by right clicking Sever Explorer >> Data Connections >> Create New SQL Database but it did not work.



Please help.

Bring up SQL Management studio, and connect to your server instance. Until you have this, you can''t do anything useful!

When you are connected, there is an Object Explorer pane on the left hand side of the window: right click "Databases" and you should get a context menu which includes "New Database..." Select that.

A new dialog should appear, give it a sensible name, or call it Testing if this is just to be sure it all works. Press OK.

The dialog will close, and you will be back at the SQL server management studio screen.
Click the "+" beside "Databases" in the Object Explorer, and you should see your (currently table-less) database in the list.

If you have a problem at any stage, note down the error message (if any) and where you had got to, and use the "Reply" widget below this answer to describe the problem.
