1) Use UTF-8 with the prolog <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and use your symbol as is. As a variant, use any other Unicode UTF with appropriate XML prolog. Make sure you save your XML file in the same encoding with is claimed in the prolog. :-) You don''t have to use BOM character.
