You got to restore the back up. Look at this[^].

What do you mean by "trying to open". It is a binary compressed file. There is nothing there to see.

But you can restore it to your database. To restore it
1. Open SQL management studio
2. Select your database
3. Right click then select Tasks->Restore->Database.
4. Fill the details and you will see the restored database.

p.s. You can create new db and perform restore as well.
