I have a master page with asp:menu

and based on the menu item selected i am displaying data in Grdiview of default.aspx due to heavy data the page loading is slow and i want to block the whole page with some message so that the user comes to know that processing is going on.
can any one suggest me some solution.
i tired with javascript but it didnt worked.
