Hi. I have been packaging some software for our company via a setup project in VS 2003. These are then installed on a customer''s system. No problem here, but... Updates/fixes to certain files are made often, and usually by way of a service call, where the file(s) in question are manually copied and placed on the customer''s machine. If the application''s exe is updated, and the user clicks the shortcut generated by my installer, it attempts to reinstall the application. It doesn''t recognize the updated file.

Is there a setting in the project I can tweak to prevent this problem?

Just a guess, but I think you might need to update your installer project version number and rebuild it.

The problem here is that files included in my original install are being updated without using an installer, so the shortcut I created during the install process is looking for the original exe. When it doesn''t find it (because it has been updated manually) the shortcut appears to try to reinstall/repair the application. That is what I am trying to have stop happening.

How are you generating your installer ? I''ve never had this issue. Are you sure the files are being copied properly ? If you still have an exe with the right name, there is no way that a link to it, will start an installer.
