I am working on an estimate form where, when I click on a combo box and pick a gold karat, the price of the metal is entered into a separate textbox where it will be used in a calculation. I still want the original karat value to show in the combo box for reference purposes. I have a table linked to Excel which contains the karats and the prices that can be updated daily, but I can''t make it work with a lookup.

Having karats and a table with karats and prices (per karat?) in excel will make a combobox possible to lookup the available karats and prices from the linked table and offer the possibility to multiply them to show the price.
I suspect however that the prices are "ranged" and thus you need to select one of the excel rows to get the correct price.
For this you can use a Dlookup() with a WHERE part finding the needed range by entering a condition using the BETWEEN clause.

Can you elaborate on the needed value(s) and the calculation and/or where it goes wrong?

Fields:Number(Key)
Karat(Text)
GramPrice(Currency)

Each Karat of gold has a specific price based on the percentage of pure gold versus alloy. (I have an Excel worksheet that calculates the karat price based on the world gold price but we don''t need to use the link if it makes me crazy.)

I want the user to enter a gram weight and click on the desired Karat and have the value of the specific karat which will then calculate the price of the gold in the piece.

Form: Estimate
Controls:TextBox; GramWeight(Number)
Combo or ListBox; Karat(Lookup from Metal)
TextBox; GramPrice(from metal)
TextBox; MetalEstimate (GramWeight x GramPrice)

It''s kind of frustrating since I can get a lookup that shows both fields that I need, but only enters the Key which is Number.

Ironically, I''m setting up the database to simplify the estimate process for my employees. It''s an ongoing project.

When you have GramWeight and GramPrice, then the TextBox "MetalEstimate" should hold in the rectangle:
=GramWeight * GramPrice
The GramPrice should be "filled" from the Karat combobox as another Karat will mean another GramPrice.
How do you fill this field and is the form "bound" to a table (does the form have a controlsource for it''s data) or not?
