I work in Visio 2010 but I work with files from and contractors who work in Visio 2003. My contractors can open my .vsd cross-functional flowcharts just fine, and use my custom .vss stencils to drop shapes as needed.

However, when I do a quality check, at least one swimlane in the middle is detached from the rest of the CFF, and shifted over with ugly results. My attempt to correct that leads to even uglier results: the errant swimlane generates its own header row and Phase panel to its left, obscuring the existing CFF's content. My attempts to delete and replace this errant swimlane by inserting a new swimlane make it even uglier: the chart retains the space left by the errant swimlane, and inserts my new swimlane in the wrong location!
