Hey guys,

I am an Interaction Design student from Berlin and I am currently working on a project that might possibly use Kinect.

The project aims to connect sound to the physical presence of a human being and making him change the sound by changing his position.

My calculations showed that I need three Kinects to cover a circle with a diameter of 6 meters, positioned in a triangle.

I found out that the detection angle of Kinect concerns to about 43 degrees, but can be enhanced to about 60 degrees (http://www.amazon.de/Nyko-86085-Kinect-Zoom-Weitwinkel-Linse/dp/B0050SYS5A). Is that guessing correct?

A construction plan of the placing of the Kinects and the circular space for interaction showed that the distance between Kinect and the center of the circle would almost be 6 meters due to 60 degree detection angle.

My questions are:

Is the wider detection angle realistic?

How much is the maximum detection range of the Kinect?

I would be happy about every suggestion.

The use of the devices are not supported with the Kinect for Windows sensor. They may distort and effect the results which may not provide accurate readings. The Kinect FOV is 43 degrees vertical, but the tilt motor can be used to change that, and 57 degrees horizontal.

The effective depth range is .8 to 4 meters, but can detect values up to 8meters away. If you are using Skeletal Tracking(ST) than you would have to be in the 4meter range. If you are using your own blob detection in the depth range, you would have to test.
