I have posted several questions both in the forums and now in these
newgroups. After a week of waiting, I have not gotten any responses except to
go look for a VS 2005 service pack. I don''t feel that my constructs are
complicated. In fact it seems others have more complicated problems than
mine. I also note that few in the newsgroups are getting answers. So I have
to ask: what keeping people from getting here answering questions?

when I post questions, I generally get answers. Not always, but pretty
often.

Strange I can find only one question from you in this newsgroup and that I
have answered together with somebody else. See bellow your reply.
That the Microsoft webforums have a low reply rate is known by everybody
except Microsoft. A pity is that the new Outlook in IE 7 seems to have big
problems with the newsreader and therefore a lot of (English) MVP''s are not
able to answer at the moment because they are using now IE 7. Most of the
MVP''s hate Microsoft webforums so that is almost the same. However your
message is in my opinion not true as it is about this newsgroup.

Thank you, that does answer my question. I will try a few experiments with
Binary input and interpretation as ASCII text with the Binary Reader and
Writer methods. I will get back when I have concluded if this expectedly
simple program will get too complicated because of differing file types.
