http://foomanchu.com/littlepeoples/

Google for peekaboo bug。

FWIW

Gecko

a {outline:none}

Sorry, for two separate browser questions, but I figured a multi-post about the same URL
might not get favorable results.

I am making a little website for the daycare my mother and wife works at and for the life
of me I cannot figure out two things.

http://foomanchu.com/littlepeoples/

1. In Internet Explorer 6 the text to the right of the logo does not appear unless I
highlight it. The text is "Little People''s CDC" and then I list the phone numbers.

2. In Opera 9.10 on the "Philosophy" page, all the text that goes past the menu on the
left, spills over to the left.

In Firefox neither of these things happen.

Can anyone direct me how to fix it, or perhaps guide me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Sorry, I forgot to say that Internet Explorer does this as well.

Google for peekaboo bug. There is a standard fix for it, the Holly fix IIRC.

Dunno but I was totally confused by the fact that the entire page is a
collection of multiply nested unordered lists. I wonder if IE and FF are
confused as well. I suspect IE and FF differ on their handling of the
content of those uls when it comes to wrapping it about the floated ul. FWIW
I think IE is getting it right. in the absence of any left margin the
content *should* wrap under the navigation.

The fact that you have incorrect nesting of the UL''s (as the validator would
tell you) is not helping.

Why not just wrap the navigation and content in a div per each, float left
the navigation and left-margin the content by the width of the navigation?
That''s the way a two column layout is usually done.

IE6 has a lot of float bugs. Search for the peek-a-boo bug.

In Firefox neither of these things happen.

Gecko has some peculiarities wrapping certain elements around floats.
Tables and lists are 2 that come to mind.

Can anyone direct me how to fix it, or perhaps guide me in the right direction?

Here''s some direction - get rid of the rule:
a {outline:none}

When I tab through links on the page, the focus outline is supposed to
give me a visual clue to which link I''m on. The above rule hides it,
making it very difficult to navigate the page.

Your choice of list mark up for the major page sections is strange, not
to mention questionable from a semantics POV. I suggest sectioning the
page off with divs instead. You''ll probably get better results, or at
least more consistent results.

BTW, you shouldn''t need kludges like empty elements and to get
what you want. You''ve also got errors like an h4 without any h1-h3 that
need correcting.

Thanks.

You''re welcome.
