I am using aspx / vb.net

Basically put I've got a grid view, I've got a button on each line of data that brings up a modal where the user can edit the specific data selected, this works fine. However i cannot get it to update the existing data, instead it creates a new line of data.

What I have tried:

I've tried multiple different things, for instance

stSQL = "UPDATE x set = X = " x "
