Generally speaking, bid low. Very, very low.
The quality of the coders available on Freelancer is generally pretty poor, and that is reflected in the price they will charge. Unfortunately, most of the people who want work done there accept the lowest bid - so unless you want to work for peanuts (or are completely incompetent) you don't stand much of a chance. The people there who do know what they are doing there will bid sensible amounts, but will have good solid experience to show for it (and mostly don't get the work - I've never had anything from freelancer myself).
