I'm a beginner programmer and I would like to do application like AvalonEdit. My problem is that I don't understand source code. Could you send me tutorial or something else where will be described how to do it? The basic about creating own UIElement, Control, examples etc.?

If you don't "understand source code" then you are trying to run before you can walk, and creating UIElements, UserControls and so forth are not the best place to start.

Begin with the basics: follow your course, or book and do the exercises. There really is no "short cut" to coding - if you don't know the early stuff really well the later stuff will just confuse rather than help.

Thanks for your answer but may otherwise. I would like to make app to highlighting syntax and which will be showing line numbers but AvalonEdit project is too large and it has got too much functions. I have already made highlighting syntax on RichTextBox but in my opinion RichTextBox is slowed.

I'm not so beginner. Simply I would like article or tutorial how to start creating custom control.
