Doing anything on client side which is not supported by major browsers in a standardized way would be a waste of time and would mean seriously compromised safety. Remember that Web technologies are supposed to be safe and therefore should not allow any arbitrary access to the client computers. The browser allow input with the keyboard and mouse, video input is being standardized, as well as geolocation, and other newer input methods (accelerometers, etc.) Doing anything beyond the standards implemented in a standard browser would be a bad, unsafe thing.
