I know this is a basic question in .Net..But when a interviewer asked this question am not able to answer it..

I really doubt the interviewer cared to know if you knew the actual answer but was more interested in seeing how you handle something out of the ordinary.

However, if they were serious, I'd leave. It can't be a good place to work if they are concerned as to whether or not you know.

And to answer you, I don't know. I always assumed it was because it came out during the .com (dot-com) time of the Internet.
