I see a lot of sev1 alerts (source VM Insights) in portal for my virtual machines or when I check alerts in the resource group where that VM resides.

However, when I check the logs in log analytics by clicking the logs option in RG or VM (or by going to the workspace with which the VM is associated with) and type query "Alert" (i.e. to get all data from Alerts table for that RG or VM in scope), I see nothing. I have checked several other tables as well, but I couldn't find those Sev1 Alerts in logs.

IMHO you were probably not able to view those alerts history by querying 'Alert' table from 'Logs' tile because those alerts are of 'Metric' signal type but not 'Log'. FYI, when you query 'Alert' table from 'Logs' tile, you would be able to see history of alerts of signal type 'Log' only .
