I installed Visual Studio 2017 via Unity.

Visual studio starts up and launches fine. 

When you create a brand new solution, Visual Studio 2017 crashes. 

When you open any solution, Visual Studio 2017 crashes.

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Refer to the description, please have a try with the following to troubleshoot this crash issue:

1. Open CMD and navigate to the VS 2015 installation folder like C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\versionname\Common7\IDE and run the command: devenv /safemode to run it as safe mode, then check if the installed extensions caused this issue.
2. Run the VS 2017 installer as administrator, repair it
3. perform a clean boot in Windows and start VS
4. check if Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.15.0.dll exists in the GAC or not, launch an Administrator 'Developer Command Prompt from VS 2017' from Start Menu, run the command: gacutil -l Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.15.0. If the Number of items is not 0, please uninstall the assembly from the GAC by running 'gacutil -uf Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.15.0'. If the file does not exist in the GAC, would you please use File Explorer to check and let us know the File version or Product version of the following file:<VS Folder>\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.15.0.dll
