I registered a domain from godaddy.com and created a cname record to point to an azure vm, where we deployed our website. it worked but browser shows the ip address instead of domain name. Not sure what shall I do?

Instead of mapping to the IP address of the VM try creating a DNS name for your VM and mapping it to that instead

This is better practice anyways as your IP address might change unless you have it set to static but the DNS name will work regardless.
