I cannot apply installed updates for SharePoint 2016 in any way, the SharePoint products configuration wizard fails:

Please make sure "Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.6" component that was installed and works well.

If not, try to uninstall it and use PrerequisiteInstaller.exe to download the necessary prerequisites component using the prerequisite installer.
