Illustrator converted to GDI, and the XPS Document Writer converted the GDI instructions to the equivalent XPS primitives. There's not really a work-around that can be done after Illustrator converts to GDI. One thing you might try is to use the XAML plugin for Illustrator and then serialize to XPS from within WPF.
