For example, it sounds like you are concerned about the size of the VM layer in Hyper-V containers.  This VM layer is just one part of the size difference between a Windows Server container and a Hyper-V container.  Hyper-V containers do not share a kernel with the host, so they must have a copy of the kernel in the container.  If you are using Nanoserver as the container OS this will not be as much of a difference as if you are using ServerCore as the container OS.

1. No you cannot modify the VM layer in a Hyper-V container as this would defeat the purpose of creating a secure separation between host and container.  I can find out how much space this layer takes.  I do know it's significantly smaller than a typical Hyper-V VM.
