I've just started using SyncToy (V2.1). I've configured it to automatically mirror my backup database (backups created by Acronis TrueImage 2009) to another drive, optionally over the LAN. It all seems to be working OK. There are relatively few files but they may be large (up to 35 GB).

I'm using scripts to drive the whole thing, and configure SyncToy. This has the advantage that I can deploy the suite quickly on any system.

I've come across a few problems that I think could easily be improved in the Command Line Interface.

1) The most urgent issue is that I have found no way to use the command line method of creating SyncToy pairs (using SyncToy.exe) to exclude selected sub-folders. This means that I have to remember to do this manually (via the GUI) after running the script (and yes, I often forget).

2) I believe it would be better if set-up functions were built into SyncToyCmd.exe rather than SyncToy.exe. The latter, being a Windows rather than Command-Line style program, briefly flicks up a window whenever you use it in this way. Although this a fairly minor issue (more of an annoyance really) , surely such functionality more properly belongs with the command line version of the program, and no windows to worry about?

3) I have found no way to list the existing folder pairs using SyncToy.exe from the command line. I would like to check whether a pair exists before deleting & recreating it, or just adding it. If you just try to delete a pair that doesn't exist, it causes a windows pop-up error message that has to be closed manually, so can't be handled from the command line script alone.

I did, however, find a work-around for this. If you try to create a pair that already exists, it doesn't cause an error, but neither does it change the definition of the existing pair as specified. I simply attempt to create the pair I want to change or add, delete it, and then re-add it. This works fine but the 3 runs of SyncToy.exe cause 3 flicked up windows.

Relatively minor issues, I know, but probably fairly easy to fix-up.
