When I am trying to use the connector tool to join two shapes sitting in different swim lanes of a cross-functional flow chart, I am unable to tag the ends of the connector to the shape. Instead, The whole swim lane box is highlighted in green and the connector will only attach to the connection points on the swim lane outline. I have tried switching on and off the AutoConnect, Dynamic grid and Connection Points visual aids, but to no avail. Can you please advise how I can change this to allow me to link the connection points of individual shapes?

In Visio, you can drag two shapes to two Swimlanes. Then go to Home tab, in the Tools group, click Connector. Then hover the mouse to the shape, the Connection Point would be displayed, you can draw the Connector from one Share to another shape.
