Live Communication Server (LCS) 2005 was replaced by Office Communications Server (OCS)2007.  OCS is a server which facilitates real-time communication.  What that means is that users of OCS can send instant messages and can communicate via voice and video.  This includes integration with the major internet IM providers (Yahoo, MSN, AOL), and also integration with the in-house phone system to provide features like Remote Call Coltrol, conference bridging, simultaneous ring, or even just a standard IP softphone.

Both the Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 (MOC) and Live Meeting can serve as clients to OCS.  MOC is similar to a standard IM application, like AIM, with a few notible differences.  First of all, MOC has built in voice, video, and telephony components, meaning you can use MOC to participate in an IM, a phone call, a group discussion, etc.  Also, each session can be "escalated".  That is, if you are talking with someone via IM, you can escalate that call to voice or video with a single mouse click.

The Live Meeting client can be used either with the Microsoft Live Meeting service, which is a subscription-based meeting service, or with a corporate OCS server.  With Live Meeting, you can share applications, share desktops, hold "Round Table" video discussions, present training, etc.
