I experience an issue I cannot fix. While installation Visual Studio 2017 Community, the installation failed due to the Visual C++ 2017 redistributable (x64) package failing to install. Mentioned reason is because failure when uninstalling previous version of Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64) 14.0.24215.

 

I, of course, experience the same issue while trying to install the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 x64 Minimum Runtime - 14.10.25017" package directly. During the installation process I am requested to locate a missing file: vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi that is supposed to be located there: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{A1C31BA5-5438-3A07-9EEE-A5FB2D0FDE36}v14.0.23506\packages\vcRuntimeMinimum_amd64\.

 

I can confirm indeed that this path does not exist on my computer.

 

The installation fails with:

ERROR 1714.The older version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 x64 Minimum Runtime - 14.10.25017 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.

Please go to control panel -> program -> uninstall the program -> uninstall all the Visual C++ 2015 Redistribute items, then test it again.

According your error massage:

That’s mean some older version cannot be removed by the VS installer, I suggest you to run Fix it tool to fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.

Next, please install all pending windows updates and clean-up %temp% folder, disable all anti-virus software, then re-run the VS 2017 Community installer as administrator, click 'Repair' to perform a repair and continue the setup process.
