Are application proxy groups in SharePoint used primarily to link web applications to service applications ? Anything more to it ?

Service Application publishing seems to be on a per Service Application basis - therefore not related to application proxy groups ?

Hi WebK,

Service Application proxy plays a major role in sharepoint, without proxy the service application will not work as expected because those proxy would have all the information about  the service application like Group membership, Web application Name, GUID, Server information's and etc.,
