Hi,

I have a SharePoint approval workflow which allows users to ask a question which auto routes to the correct team to answer. Sometimes, the team who needs to answer the question needs some more time but want to keep the person who asked the question updated with progress.

The team receive the task / question to answer via email and click the 'Open this task' button on the mail in Outlook to add an answer. When they add the answer, the task closes and the answer they provided is picked up by the workflow, updated on the question list and a mail is sent to the user.

We want to be able to use the same process to send an interim update while we are searching for an answer to the question but we need the task to remain open so that we can later use it to provide the final answer.

I have added a button and tried creating various data connections (The task either closes or nothing happens at all), using the update action for the button (But it only shows on the web page, not the outlook email) and various custom rules but nothing has worked.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this please.
