Does anyone know why search service application fails in SP 2010? I have made sure the account has correct permissions. Just for the sake of testing, I used farm account and it still fails. I try to create new search service application using Central Admin UI and it shows "1. Configuring search service application" and then that message does not go away. It is stuck. Then I go to services and restart sharepoint timer service and the creation/provisioning completes but now there is an error message that reads:

The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify

My question is that why do I have to restart timer service manually? It makes me believe that something is wrong with the farm account or the timer service. I shouldn't have to restart it manually in order to complete search service completion and the resulting error may have something to do with the same fact that timer service gets stuck. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot the problem? ULS log does not have any helpful messages.
