I have been assigned a task to migrate a server's IIS site and SQL database to Azure. I have never worked with Azure before besides Azure AD Connect (which isn't quite the same thing) and my boss has not worked with Azure before either. I found the Azure App Service Migration Assistant to migrate Azure. My boss told me he wants the tool to copy IIS and SQL databse, but not to just move them in order to ensure that the migration is seamless. According to what I have read on this migration tool, it doesn't copy them -- it just moves them. Originally, I had thought about making backups of both IIS and SQL and then migrating them, but my boss has stated that I will need to find a way to copy it instead to prevent downtime. I have been researching and struggling to find a solution. Has anyone had to do this before?

Hi TechStation, as you mentioned, the migration tool currently does not copy IIS and SQL database. You can request this feature from the product team on uservoice. For a workaround, follow the steps in this documentation  to migrate an active DNS name to Azure App Service without any downtime. Avoid downtime in DNS resolution during the migration by binding the active DNS name to your App Service app preemptively.
