I successfully installed "visual studio 2012 express for windows 8". However I soon learned that this build is distinct from "visual studio 2012 express for windows desktop". So now I have an ISO image of this one as well and I'm trying to install it without uninstalling anything (potentially destroying my computer). Looking around I noticed some attempts at renaming registry keys, but this is rather invasive don't you think? Thankyou for any help.

Visual Studio installation will write something in the registry. However I don't think it is invasive because some configuration should be set in your computer. As I know, many programs will write the registry.
