I'm doing a simple list in SharePoint for the HR department that has time slots allocated. I want to add a column with a button for each time slot that books that time slot. I don't want to do it in InfoPath, as the list should be as simple as possible, someone just sees the list, picks a time of his choosing, inserts his name then reserves the time slot. Also, I want someone else not to be able to modify his booking. I also, am not to savvy in JavaScript, so any workaround would be appreciated.

To restrict to modify the item other then author and If this is a list, you can go into the List Settings --> Advanced Settings, and you should be able to set Read and Edit access to items that the user has created.
