I have recently got a  new development machine.  I previously build the websites on VWD 2005.  I had AJAX installed on the old machine and it is also installed on the remote server.  I had added the ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll and Microsoft.Web.Extensions.Design.dll to the bin of the website Im working on + these are referenced in the web.config in order to make AJAX work.  Anyway, I have installed Visual Studio 2005 with VS SP1 on a new server.  When I try and open a site I had previously made, Visual Studio hangs and in the message bar it reads... Adding reference to System.web.dll which appears to loop round unsuccessfully.  This happens when I try to switch to design mode.  Other symptoms include it being very slow to load all the controls and hyperlinks.  I am connected to the server via RDP but this shouldnt make a difference and the server is very powerful so its not to do with performance.  I hope someone can help.

I am having the exact same problem. I have a VS2005 C# web application. I have AJAX 1.0 installed. I am opening a file locally and its terribly slow to open a form in design mode. The status bar is showing "Adding reference to System.Web.dll..." and it does this VERY SLOWLY  for EACH CONTROL on the form in design mode. One control is displayed on the form... then pause with the adding reference message... then next control is shown.. .then pause for status bar message, etc... This is a major problem. It makes working on the forms unbearable.
