I am using 2013 SPD and created a 2010 reusuable workflow for approval. Interestingly I can not find the "version" column for association columns, so I can not access the version in my workflow. Can someone help me find a solution to this problem? Or a workaround?

Which list did you want to select "version" column from? Could you please provide more details about the issue?

Per my test in my SharePoint 2013 environment, I create the reusable workflow 2010 for approval, then I click association columns in the ribbon and then I can select "Version" column from the site columns under the "core document columns". And I can add the "Version" column into the workflow.

You could check if there is version column in the site columns. If there is no version column, you could create one site column named "Version".
