Our client is encountering a problem of metadata lost when replacing a file in a document library. it used to be working fine for them so we wonder why. I have also done a few tests but only with docx, pptx, and xlsx. What I found is that whenever I downloaded the file from the library first before editing and re-uploading, the metadata would be kept. Otherwise, if I edited the local files and uploaded to replace the files, all metadata would be kept except 'title'. pptx file would pick up the title inside the slide, docx and xslx files wiped out title at all.

If I download a copy of a file then uploaded it into the library again, the Title field was not changed. I tested using Excel file and PPT file, they were same.

If I download a copy of a file and edited it locally then uploaded it into the library again, the Title field also was not changed. I also tested using Excel file and PPT file.
