Hi Guys,

We are a small engineering company, we have some engineers on different client location. We want a system were we can share files with the engineers onsite since we dont have any AD at the site or any connection between the HQ and the sites. 

We only have internet connection at the site. So i was looking at sharepoint foundation. can share point do this work for me?

Can i install Sharepoint on a VPS server?

Can sharepoint act like a shared drive for my engineers onsite?

Will sharepoint foundation be enough for my requiremnts ?

You need AD for using SharePoint or you can use Form based authentication but that will require customization and I am not sure you will go for that.

For your question, yes you can install SharePoint on VPS server, and can use SharePoint foundation if you only need it for sharing documents with authenticated users. 

Just make sure one thing that if your engineers can access the from VPS server.

Now if you need this for document sharing then you can use OneDrive for sharing documents between your engineers which is also available through hotmail or you can go for Office 365.
