I have been able to push toast notifications to Windows Phone but I cannot find any way to push an update to a live tile?

From what I understand maybe I'm going about it wrong. Maybe the app has to update the tile and I just push a notification that tells the app to do that? Either way, I can't find anything anywhere helping me learn how to do this. I don't want a 3rd party tool or site to push the notifications. I want to send a notification to the phone from my server and it update the tile only.

Can anyone please help with detailed explanation and very simple code. Nothing complex because I don't want to dig through the jabber. I just want the basic idea and I believe I can get the rest accomplished.

I mostly need the server side code; there are a lot of examples for doing this from within the app on the phone so that's not an issue.
