I've gone through the process of using TA.EXE to create a target profile and have built an XPe OS checking all dependencies and building successfully without any errors. My XPe image is about 128MB uncompressed. Have gone through the process of copying the generated image to a virtual drive setup by SDI Loader on Vista and XP thinking the development OS might be an issue. Have successfully taken the SDI file created and placed it on a DVD. And have successfully booted the target system (Sempron 1GHz, 2GBRAM, 320GBHDD EIDE, DVD/CDEIDE) with MSDOS 6.22 and run SDI2HD copying the SDI file image to my C: drive which was partitioned and formatted with MSDOS 6.22.

I've done this in as many ways as I can think of without a successful boot on the target. I've also tried this on a virtual pc as well with unsuccessful results. The best boot I have had is that the target continually wants to connect to something using PXE over ethernet. Most of the time the system just restarts over and over again.

What are some gotchas using this method. It seems very straightforward so I cannot think of what I'm doing wrong. Does anybody have any ideas? I've been using Sean Liming's book Windows XP Embedded Advanced as a reference.
