Am a newbie trying to understand Design 4 capabilities... am missing capability to build curves- am missing the B-spline icon (get only elliple, rectangle, line and polygon)... any settings I need to do?

Am using licensed version through bizSpark program

It is on the flyout for the Pen Tool (P).  You can also access it by using 'W'.  The icon on the 'Pen' flyout should change depending on the tool selected in that category.  Strongly suggest you read/re-read the User guide/Help file.
