Hi, I'm very new to SharePoint Designer and SharePoint Workflows, but am using SharePoint 2016 with SharePoint Designer 2013 and SharePoint 2010 workflows, as I had heard that it was less buggy and had more functionality than the SharePoint 2013 workflows. I have a Document Set that I need to push through a multi-stage approval chain. Initially, the user enters data at the initiation of the Document Set, and then goes to the Document Set Welcome Page to add their documents. I included a choice dropdown called "Ready to Submit" for them to trigger the workflow. When the workflow starts, I need to generate an email for any of the approvers to review the document, enter in six additional pieces of information to the Document Set, and then approve (or reject) the document set, before it goes to the next set of approvers.

Currently, my approach is to Set the workflow status to "Pending Department Review", then Set the Content Approval Status for the contents of this Document Set to Pending with the comment of "Pending Department Review", along with the Collect user data, and then store the data into Association columns. If the data from the Collect User Data is not empty, then start the Approval process for contents of the Document Set with users specified by a column. 

I'm having several difficulties with this, as I'm not finding adequate documentation or examples on how to go about this.

1. When using the Collect User Data, I added in the custom form fields for the user to fill out, using the same column names as in my Association columns (I'm going to be creating three different workflows, depending on user selection in a dropdown, so while they all have a core set of fields, they will each also have custom fields I need to have entered dynamically). It appears my only option is to Output to Variable: collect, but I don't see a way to store the values from each of the custom fields in the Collect User Data module into my Association columns, as it is all stored in the Variable: collect. How do I do this, or should I use the "Task Form Fields" in the document set approval workflow instead?

2. On the "Start approval process for the contents of this Document Set", how do I specify a user group that I created in the "Sites and Permissions" section? I looked through my options in the "users specified by," but didn't see where I could select the user group I created.

3. Is there a way to customize the form for the custom fields in the Collect User Data, or do they just appear on my document set Welcome Page?

4. How can I obtain the result of the approval? 

Any reference material and examples would be extremely helpful, as I have several of these to do and I'm not sure how to even begin on this one.
