To depend whether the issue is results by Office Web Apps or the documents themselves, Please check whether the issue occurs on all word documents or special word documents. 

If it just exists in some word documnets, try to download the documents and upload again, or you can recreate the documents and upload them, compare the results. 

If the issue exists in all documents, check the following information:

Make sure all SharePoint 2013 web applications use claims-based authentication.

Don't open documents with System Account, log on with a different account to test the connection.

Office Web Apps Server must be installed on a separate server that’s part of a domain

Make sure you’re running SharePoint 2013 build 15.0.4420.1017 or later.
