Hi,

Having gone round in circles for about 5 hours I narrowed down this problem ... In VS2008 after SP1 Beta follow by patch cleaning and then SP1 I have no way to start Server Explorer, Show Data Sources or Add database connection. I was originally trying out the new EDMX stuff and couldn't generate from DB, the dialog box flashed up and vanished.

Eventually I decided to create a new Report Project and to get it to use the data source wizard and it threw up the error.

"The Data Source Configuration Wizard could not be started because the required DLLS are not available. To correct this problem, reinstall Visual Studio".

I've reinstalled and reapplied SP1, it still didn't work! What are the DLLS?

What else has a dependency on this DLL and trashed it?

I'm on Windows Server 2003 SP2 virtual machine. Seems my only option is to rebuild the server. (I could rant about Service packs but I dared to install a beta! so I'll hold back).

I also have VS2005 installed and its Server Explorer and data source wizard work fine. So I don't understand how a reinstall of VS2008 didn't put back a clean side by side version.

I'm off to install SQL 2008 Express edition hoping the tools put something back.

Any help would be most appreciated.
