I am working on a sharepoint on-premises 2013 enterprise license. now i usually use  "Microsoft  Sharepoint workspace" client application, which allow me to Sync a sharepoint document library with my PC, so i can read/modify the documents locally even if i am not connected to the internet. and once i connect to the internet my changes will be uploaded... so seems Microsoft sharepoint workspace client application is a great tool to allow offline intigration with documents which have been uploaded to sharepoint.

1. when i first open "OneDrive" client application, i was asked to sign in.. so i thought i need to provide my domain username and password.. but seems i need to have a Microsoft account to use the OneDrvie .. now in our case we have sharepoint on-premises. so does this mean that each user should have a Microsoft account to use the OneDrive client application ? for example when i use "Microsoft  Sharepoint workspace" i do not need to login...

i will get the "Microsoft Sharepoint workspace" opening.. so how i can force the "OneDrvie" to open when i clcik on the Sync icon ? as i want to test how OneDrive works with sharepoint on-premises document libraries...

3. now as i mentioned i did not use OneDrive before, and all my work to sync denouements between sharepoint and my PC  was using "Microsoft Sharepoint workspace" .. so is OneDrive a replacement for "Microsoft Sharepoint workspace"  in the on-premises environments ? or OneDrvie is a desktop tool for SharePoint online rather than sharepoint on=premises ??

You need the legacy OneDrive for Business client, shipped with Office 2013 and 2016 for file synchronization with SharePoint 2013 (or 2016). SharePoint Workspace, which shipped with Office 2010, does not support SharePoint 2013 (or 2016).
