Following the instructions above, I've been able to get both the home and Category pages to have the same desired look.

However, I have not been able to filter the posts based upon the category selected either from the categories listed within the post, or links from the list on the left hand side.

I have created a custom view for each category, when trying to apply these custom views to the category pages, the posts return to a List format rather than the Boxed blog posts.

As a workaround, try to use Query String (URL) Filter web part and Create a web part connection that connects the Query String URL Filter to the Posts web part.
