Up until a month ago I had not installed SharePoint and never really used it.   Well everything worked fine, what was a really impressive is the processing of inbound emails with simple workflows that stored the attachments in document or image libraries correctly. 
I've recently downloaded the Workflow Samples for .NET Framework 4, that have significant enhancements in Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) namespaces. .NET that developers can use these technologies, either independently or together, to eliminate the tradeoff between ease of service authoring and performant, scalable services, looking for such a pattern senario.  Does a sample senario exist which demonstrates processing Inbound Email similar to the pattern used in Sharepoint?  

Any suggestions are appreciated.

There is currently a SendMail sample, there is not one in the SDK for processing inbound emails.

The big challenge is really to have some way to dispatch from email to a service  / workflow.  You could imagine a long running process polling a mailbox and then dispatching to a service.  That would likely be dependent on your email infrastructure.
